Dog Park-A Great Place to Play and Train

If you are looking for a great park to run your dog off leash, look no further. The Spokane County Off-Leash Dog Park is a great place to meet other dog owners and watch your dog play, without getting tangled around a leash. It is located 15 miles from Spokane, near the Centennial Trail.

To get to the park you take Exit 299 off of I-90 where you will see the park to your left. The parking lot adjoins the visitor information center, which is also where you will find the restrooms. It is a convenient spot to exercise and play with your dog as long as you wish. There is no cost for entering the park and you will find benches and picnic tables for relaxing in this nice fenced park.

We first heard about this park through our dog trainer, who is a huge fan of what it had to offer. She described it as a great place to train and play. That weekend we took our Labrador Retriever there for his first time. Being only a year old, our puppy went nuts playing with every dog that came through the gate.

There were six dogs joining in the fun and it was a riot watching the dogs chase each other and race after the tennis balls being thrown. Whether the dogs were big or small, they all wore each other out with an occasional break for fresh water from the facet. If your dog needs some quiet time at some point during their play, there is a gravel trail winding back into a small wooded area that is perfect for getting their attention again. In addition, there is an open, grassy portion where most of playing takes place. If you want to train as well, this is a great spot to work with your dog. After such a good experience, we have continued to go back for more and to meet more dog owners around the area.

Okay, this park is not even in Spokane…….come on Spokane, lets get a dog park that we can walk to with our dogs, and not waste gas.
It may not be in Spokane, but it is a great option to take your dogs if you do live in the Spokane area. We have taken our dogs there in the past and it is a great place. But I do agree, we live in Coeur d’Alene and could definitely use a lot more dog friendly parks. It’s like having parks where we can’t bring our kids, just odd…
