Northwood Park-North Spokane County

Today we discovered one of Spokane County’s fine parks. We were driving from a friend’s house and literally ran right into it. Since it was such a nice afternoon, I stopped to let my son burn off some energy. Nestled in a quite North Spokane neighborhood on 5 acres is a wonderful place to take your children to play. Northwood Park is maintained by Spokane County and located next to Brentwood Elementary, 406 W. Regina, Spokane, WA. There is plenty of parking available in a parking lot on the west side of the park.
Northwood Park has a wonderful play area for children of all ages, that includes 3 slides and other toys. My son loves the slides and climbing on the play structure, with my help of course. At 18 months he has yet to develop any fear so he enjoys trying all different ways to go down the slide. Today he decided it was more fun to go on his belly head first. This was fine with me except I was not expecting it. Usually he goes on his belly feet first. While we were there, lots of other families were bringing their children out to play.
At the back area of Northwood Park there are some bike riding trails which from which I could hear boys laughing as they rode over all the bumps. Northwood Park also boasts a lot of grassy area where your family can play frisbie, soccer or just run and burn off some of the energy built up from this winter.
If you want to enjoy lunch or dinner while you are playing, there are plenty of picnic tables, shelters and BBQ’s available. You will need to take your own charcoal if you wish to use the BBQ’s. Northwood Park also has bathroom facilities, although they will not be open until the end of May. The stay open until after Labor Day.
We plan on using this park a lot this summer, especially if we want to meet other families for picnics, BBQ’s and such.
