GSL Softball District Playoffs - Spokane, Washington

Last night, rain and all we decided to bundle up and head to Withworth University to watch the GSL Slow Pitch Softball District Tournament. The first game was Mead v. University, where Mead beat University by a wide margin. The second game was undefeated Shadle Park v. Central Valley.
It was only lightly raining when we left our house, but by the time we arrived at Whitworth it was coming down fairly hard. However, we had been wanting to see a softball game all season and had yet to make it to one, so we bundled Simon in this stroller and off we went.
When we arrived they had started the 1st inning, and Central Valley had already scored one run. However, we were confident Shadle Park, my husband’s alma mater would come through. They have Sam Skillingstad as a pitcher. After Central Valley’s first run Skillinstad retired 15 of 16 batters and Shadle ended up winning 8-2 to take the District 8 4A Championship. This was the Highlander’s first title since 2001.
I have always been amazed by the young ladies that play fast pitch softball. The skill level and dedication of these young ladies impresses me so much. Whether it is the clink on the bat, the noise the pitcher’s hand makes upon release or the cheers coming from the dug outs, the atmosphere at these games is high.
The next games play in the regional tournament beginning at 6 pm at Franklin Park on Spokane’s northside. We plan on being there to cheer on Shadle and Mead, my alma mater.
