4th of July Fun in Downtown Spokane

4th of July After nap time this afternoon we decided to head to downtown Spokane to take in all the 4th of July festivities. We ended up parking by the Spokane Veteran’s Arena to avoid the congestion downtown and walked through Riverfront Park. As we entered the park we could immediately tell we were in for a fun afternoon.

The Boy Scouts had an inflatable slide set up, the Shriner’s were selling rubber ducks for their annual duck race on the Spokane River, and other businesses were selling their goods and services. We ventured further into the park, as I really wanted some ice cream or some other sweet treat.

We got a little sidetracked getting to the food though because we saw that our 22 month old could ride the Ferris Wheel with dad. That made his entire afternoon. We wandered through the rest of the rides, but he was too young for anything else.

Finally, we started making our way back to the main entrance of the park. Finally, I found my berry kabob stand that I had been wanting all day. My kabob did not leave me disappointed. It fulfilled my sweet tooth for the afternoon.

There was also live music being played in the park. While we were there it was a one man show, but he had an amazing voice. As we were leaving another band was setting up.

We then made our way to the carousel, but the line wrapped around the inside of the building and we knew it was too hot and too long of a wait, so we wandered through more vendors selling craft and more inflatable toys.

The evening concluded with a firework show that I am sure was amazing. However, having a 22 month old who would not sleep anywhere but his own bed and did not do well being overtired, we headed home for dinner and left the fireworks for others to enjoy. Hopefully next year we can watch the fireworks.
