Fun Afternoon at Millwood City Park-Spokane Valley

Yesterday afternoon we had to run out to Millwood in the Spokane Valley to pick up a few things and since it was such a hot afternoon, we stopped at Millwood City Park, which is right next to Millwood City Hall at 9103 E. Frederick. Millwood City Park has so much to do for kids of all ages that we ended up spending a few hours there.
Millwood City Park boasts a wadding pool, splash pad, play equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts and a horse shoe pit. There are also dozens of picnic tables, covered eating areas and a lots of wide open grass area to play on. My son headed right to the wadding pool, which is only a few inches deep and has 2 lifeguards to watch over the kids while they play. The wadding pool is limited to those kids 7 and younger and is open 7 days a week; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a ½ hour lunch break from 2:00-2:30 Monday through Saturday and 1-5 with a ½ break from 2:00-2:30 on Sundayâs. Swimsuits are required.

After tiring of the wadding pool, we wandered over to check out the splash pad. There were quite a few older kids playing in the splash pad but there were very careful around Simon, which I appreciated. It took me a few minutes though to figure out the water rotation cycle. I soon saw a young boy stepping on a button in the middle of the splash pad and realized that is how you turned it on. After getting splashed in a the face one too many times, Simon decided he was done playing in the water and wanted to go down the slide.
After changing back into clothes, we headed to the play area to burn off some more energy. The toys provided another half an hour of fun as the park has toys that we have not seen at any other parks.

The basketball court and tennis courts were full of kids playing along with dozens of parents sitting in the shade watching their kids. This is definitely a park we will be visiting again and would be a great place for a family with kids of different ages.

It was finally time to head for home and start dinner, but it was nice to find a park that provided so much entertainment in one venue. Next time we are headed out in that area, we will be stopping by to play.
