Comstock Park: The Place to Meet in South Spokane

Comstock Park on Spokane’s South Hill has many options. There’s the public pool, the free tennis courts, the full basketball court, acres of grass and trees, and even a fire pit if you’d like to roast some marshmallows on a summer night. A group of college students and I are planning a service trip to Westport, Washington, and instead of meeting in a stuffy church basement, we’ve decided to conduct all of our weekly planning meetings at Comstock Park.
Last night, the weather was perfect, as it has been every time we’ve met up at Comstock. We began with our customary game of Ultimate Frisbee, then moved on to juggling a soccer ball in a circle. We finally got down to the business of planning out the week, when we’ll be mentoring junior high and high school students in Westport this August. We’re a little stressed about being behind on the planning, probably because we’ve had so much fun together enjoying Comstock during our “meetings.” But as we sat around planning, the tall pines and friendly neighbors walking by seemed to inspire us, and we ended up getting a great deal of work done before nightfall.
When darkness came, a cool breeze floated through the park as we were finishing up our time together, putting the perfect touch on a fun and productive time together.
Comstock is located on West 29th on the South Hill. Just south of 29th, you’ll notice the pool, so you can’t miss it. The next time you have a business meeting with a group of people, you might consider leaving the conference room behind for the enjoyable surroundings of Comstock Park.
