Spokane Farmer’s Market

This past Wednesday after working out, we decided to swing through downtown Spokane and visit the Spokane Farmer’s Market. The Spokane Farmer’s Market is in its 10th year and is located at 20 W. 2nd Avenue (between Division and Browne). It operates from May through October every Saturday 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and Wednesdays beginning mid-June from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Once we found a parking spot, which there is street parking and a parking lot right next to the Farmer’s Market on the east side, it was off to find some fresh fruits and vegetables. I was surprised at 10:00 in the morning how many people there were meandering through the Farmer’s Market. There was live music, food, and plenty of conversation. What more do you need!
The Spokane Farmer’s Market began in 1998 with a handful of vendors. Today there are over 25 vendors, selling local meats, eggs, produce, plants and baked goods.
We always start out by doing a quick walk through just to see who has what and who has the best prices. I did notice that prices have risen since last year, but were still far more reasonable than you could find at the grocery store.
My son spotted the bakery booth, so I had to buy him a cookie so we could finish our shopping. But for $1.75 for a cookie that was bigger than his hands it was well worth it. My son then spotted some beets and was frantically pointing to them. They were a great deal only $2 per bunch. The next booth over had some fabulous looking Zucchini for $1 and a bunch of carrots for another $1. You cannot beat that price. On the way to the car we spotted some cucumbers, so I spent another $2 and bought 3 cucumbers.
I feel we got a great deal for $6 and so far have eaten the beets and 2 of the 3 cucumbers. I am hoping to make zucchini cake tonight after it cools off. I cannot wait to hit the Farmer’s Market next week.
