100 Years of Motorcycle-Spokane Fairgrouds

This past Saturday we decided to head to the Spokane County Fairgrounds to the 100 Years of Motorcycle Rally & Concert Series. I was not sure what to expect, but my husband said we would enjoy ourselves as he went to Rosalia last year for the Rally. We are by no means motorcycle people, but we do enjoy looking at the custom bikes and my husband wanted to meet Jonathan Hillstrand from the “Deadliest Catch”.
After we spent $40 on tickets ($20 a piece) we headed to check out the custom bikes, take in some music and see what else was happening. When we first walked in the main building there was all types of motorcycles lined up, vendors and a large tattoo vendor.

When we walked outside we decided that was the place to be. We headed over to the main staging area to look at the custom bikes. I do not know a lot about motorcycles, but the bikes were beautiful. There were bike builders from Canada, Washington, Oregon and Arizona.
We were there just in time to watch the Lilac City Roller Girls put on an exhibition Roller Derby Match. That was quite an experience. Those ladies are tougher than I will ever be!

After the Roller Derby we headed to the main grandstand area to watch the dirt bike races and rodeo. That was a lot of fun. There were kids from as young as 4 to over 50. My favorite was the 4 year old on a motorcycle with training wheels. He could really get the bike moving and even get one of the training wheels off the ground when he went around the corner. The older bikers were fun to watch too as they zoomed around the track.
After the dirt bike races were over we headed to the south lawn to check out the vendors and to meet Jonathan Hillstrand. We decided to also grab a quick bite to eat at the concession stand. I had never had a Zippy Dog, but tried one. It is a hot dog on a stick dipped in pancake batter. It was much better than I anticipated and I look forward to getting one at the Fair this year.
The music was fairly decent on both stages. They were by no means professional, but they could sing the classics with the best of them.
If you plan to the 100 Years of Motorcycle next year I would definitely go early in the morning and plan to stay most of the day to get your money’s worth. Otherwise, I am not sure I would spend $20 on a ticket. For more information please visit their website: www.100yearsofmotorcycle.com.
