Pine River Park Family Time Outing-North Spokane

by Celanith on 08/04/08 at 11:51 am

One of the places our family loves to visit during the warm summer months is Pine River Park. Take Division to 395 and exit right onto Wandermere Rd just past the shopping mall. Turn left onto North Dartford Drive, follow to the stop sign and turn right on North Mill Road. North Mill Rd becomes North Little Spokane Drive. Follow it until you come to East Green Leaf Drive, take a right and immediately after take another right into Pine River Park a County Park that is along the Little Spokane River.

The park has a lot of green grassy areas and the Little Spokane River a small gentle stream meanders through the park. There is a playground area for the little ones and ample picnic tables, a covered picnic area for large crowds, some grilling stations and picnic tables. There are restrooms to use where one can change into bathing suits and other necessary needs.

Sand Castle Fun and Friends

Across the Pine River Park Bridge you will find more picnic areas and a small beach and swimming hole.
Families flock to relax in the sun, and enjoy the water.

Some use inner tubes and others floating pads, to float with the current down the little river. While children, parents, grandparents and dogs splash, wade and swim in the water or just play along the bank making sand castles and collecting pretty pebbles.

Some famlies bring their croquet sets or frisbee to play and or horseshoes. Everyone is friendly and often chat with one another as kids and parents take to the water to cool off and play.

There are a lot of shade trees and it is a great way to spend the day or just a fun filled and relaxing afternoon. Pine River Park is one of our favorite places to play and relax on weekends or in the evening.

We have had a couple of birthday parties there in years past. This past weekend we enjoyed watching a Cuban refugee family hold a bithday party for a little girl and they had two pinatas hung in trees. We did not have a place to grill our hotdogs and they invited us to use their stainless steel grill.

We arrived aat 10:30 in the morning and left at 5:30 in the evening Saturday June 26th. The grandkids enjoyed the day playing, splashing and making friends, while hubby rested in the shade and I took a couple of dips in the pool my self and we enjoyed a good picnic lunch and later had dessert. was a super fun day with the grandkids.
