Buggy BarnI have been wanting to attend the Annual Buggy Barn Quilt Show at the Buggy Barn in Reardan Washington for the past few years. However, we are usually out of town. This year to my surprise we were in town and I definitely made sure we scheduled time to drive to Reardan to the Buggy Barn.

I love shopping at the Buggy Barn Quilt Shop. You literally are shopping in an old carriage house on a farm. You walk in the shop and you get an overwhelming feeling to quilt. They have dozens of quilt hanging on the walls to inspire you. They also have hundreds of bolts of fabrics from some of the best lines around. Almost every quilt that is hanging is also available in a kit, which usually includes the fabric and pattern.

This was the perfect weekend, August 23rd and 24th, to attend the 12th Annual Buggy Barn Quilt Show and Folk Art Sale. The weather was warm, but not too hot and there was a nice breeze on the farm. There were quilts everywhere. Now, this is not your typical quilt show. All the quilts are hanging outside along fences, tacked onto barns and on clotheslines. Walking into the rows of quilts I was amazed at the talent of everyone.  The time and effort put into these quilts is amazing.

I love to quilt but have not had much time in the last 2 years since my son was born. However, I am getting ready to go on a retreat so this was the perfect place to inspire me and help me get my quilt “mojo” back.

After walking along the fence line, I headed up the hill to the barn through more quilts hanging on the fence and a clothes line. Once I got up to the barn I could walk around all three sides and see more inpsiring work. As I turned to walk back down the hill, I was also inspired by how beautiful the countryside was. The wheat is ripe and blowing in the wind.

After a short walk across the field I walked into another building that was housing the folk art sale. Inside there were 5 or 6 vendors selling their wares. I immediately recognized Polka Dotted Pottery, Simply Butternut, Wandering Willow, Galloping Pony and others. Everything from pottery to painted doors was available for sale.

As I walked back to the car I noticed there was also the “Buggy BBQ” which was selling hot dogs and hamburgers. I was not hungry but the food looked and smelled very good.
