Sunday Brunch at the Davenport Hotel

For Christmas one of my good friend’s got us all gift certificates for Champagne Brunch at the Davenport Hotel (10 South Post). We finally all had last Sunday available to head downtown. The Davenport Hotel first opened in 1914 and remained opened until 1985. Walt and Karen saved the Davenport from demolition in 2000 and brought the Davenport back to its glory, as one of the nicest hotels in the state, if not the country.
After we arrived at the Davenport Hotel or our 10:00 reservations we were seated in a beautful ballroom surrounded by tables of fabulous lookng food. As we were escorted to our table, the host pointed out the crepe, omlet and waffle bar, meat station, hot food (fish, chicken, bacon, sausage, potato) table, seafood area and of course the most improtant the dessert and chocolate fountain.
After being seated an having our champagne glasses filled immediately we waited for our fresh squeezed orange juice and developed a plan. We headed first to the crepe and omelet bar. I was a little disappointed that the crepes them selves were already made and they just reheated them and added your fruit choice, but they were good nonetheless. However, my omelet was very good. They had about 12 different toppings to choose from and I had a ham, tomato and feta cheese omelet with a tiny bit of salsa added on top. It hit the spot.
Shortly after finishing my omlet I decided to check out the Lamb Wellington and a little fish and chicken along with some fresh fruit. The lamb was perfectly cooked and the fruit was amazingly fresh for this time of year. After another trip through the food it was time to hit the chocolate fountain and dessert bar.
The chocolate fountain was surrounded by pineapple, strawberries, marshmallows, shortbread cookies and some pastries to dip in. I had some chocolate covered strawberries marshmallows and a croisant with chocolate drizzled over it.
After two hours of great conversation, good food and a little champagne, it was time to head home, but I cannot wait to visit the Davenport again for the Sunday brunch.
Brunch is held every Sunday at the Davenport Hotel. Reservations are recommended. The cost for adult is about $35 and children 5-12 are $29 and children 5 and under are free. Cal (509) 455-888 for more information.
