Liberty High School Basketball: Spangle’s Small-Town Excitement

Signs on Gym Walls to Boost Spirit

I’m not much of a sports fanatic. Growing up a theatre geek, I generally prefer to go see a play than a basketball game any time I have a choice between the two options. This has frustrated my younger sister, a cheerleader for Liberty High School in Spangle (about [...]

Co-Ed Soccer at NW Soccer Center-Spokane Valley

This season we are playing co-ed soccer at Spokane’s NW Soccer Center located at 7320 E. Nora in the Spokane Valley.

My husband loves co-ed soccer as he gets to execise and have fun with a group of friends. Co-ed soccer tends to be a little, and I mean a little, less competitiv than men’s soccer. There is also not as much board banging, which his body appreciates! The season consists of 8 games over 10 weeks for a cost of $575 per team plus $8 a game ref fees. The games consist of two 22 minutes halfs.

Spend a day at the YMCA-Spokane Valley

The YMCA Spokane Valley has one of the best aquatic centers around. In addition to a lap pool, they have a wonderful activity pool. There is a zero depth entry, a section where kids can play and swim, 2 water features and a large slide.

Sweeny Todd Performs at the Fox

I love the Sweeny Todd Musical. I listen to the Broadway soundtrack daily. I saw the Tim Burton movie twice in theaters and bought the DVD as soon as it was released. I went to the Civic Theater production in the beginning of November, but as good as that was, I still had not had enough of the musical thriller. When I found out that the touring Broadway show was coming to the Martin Woldson Fox Theatre in downtown Spokane, I jumped at the opportunity and bought 4 tickets at $38 a piece.

Awake the Child in You at High Bridge Park

When thinking of Spokane, two timeless parks come to mind. There’s the classic and sprawling beauty of Manito Park, and then there’s the urban and elegant Riverfront Park. Although I love these parks, I’m always looking for something smaller, something that tends to go unnoticed. One such park is High Bridge Park. I first discovered it during the Spokane River Clean Up.

There are a couple of ways to get to the park, but the easiest is to follow Riverside (west) past Browns Addition. Once you reach a downward hill past Browns Addition you’re close. The park will be on the left hand side, just a few hundred feet past Peoples Park. So if you’re looking for somewhere to relax and reconnect with the person inside you that once had play dates and recess, I recommend grabbing a friend and a Frisbee for High Bridge Park.

Learn to relax with Main Street Yoga

I love to exercise. It makes me feel better and best of all, lets out my aggression. But lately, I’ve found that doing the same routine day in and out, can become monotonous. When this happens, exercise becomes more like a job than a hobby, and I find myself calling in sick to the gym. [...]

Midnight Madness at Gonzaga University

This past Friday we decided to wait in line and be one of the first to watch the Gonzaga Men’s Basketball team practice at McCarthey Athletic Center. My husband arrived before 5:00 p.m. to stand in line as we were not sure how many other thousands of people would be there. My son and I arrived about 5:15 as I knew he would not be very patient at waiting in line. When the doors opened at 5:30 we filed in and tried to grab the best seat we could.

Gymnastics at the YMCA

Last week we started our two year old son at gymnastics at the downtown YMCA. We thought it would be a great way to enhance his coordination and burn off some energy. The downtown YMCA is located at 507 N. Howard and the Valley YMCA is located at 2421 N. Discovery Place. All classes are open to both members and non-members. I talked a few friends into taking the class with us, so the four of us head weekly to the YMCA after nap.
