Downtown Spokane Houses Many Incredible Sculptures from Local Artists

Taking a small stroll down Riverside St. and Main St. in downtown Spokane, I realized just how blessed this city is with sculpture artists. In just a short distance, there are so many incredible works that are both fascinating and inspiring. The sculptures range from being half the size of an average person, to as [...]

Ice Skating at Riverfront Park’s Ice Palace

Overall, our experience was fantastic! We all had a great time laughing and skating around. I would definitely reccomend the Ice Palace to anyone who likes to have fun! It also was reasonably affordable, which is great for poor college students!

In Awe of Our Winter Wonderland

Spokane is now a city of constant national news coverage. The severe weather conditions we have been dealing with have broken records made as far back as we started recording records. The amount of snow we have accumulated in such a short period of time has been very difficult to deal with, and rarely have [...]

Sweeny Todd Performs at the Fox

I love the Sweeny Todd Musical. I listen to the Broadway soundtrack daily. I saw the Tim Burton movie twice in theaters and bought the DVD as soon as it was released. I went to the Civic Theater production in the beginning of November, but as good as that was, I still had not had enough of the musical thriller. When I found out that the touring Broadway show was coming to the Martin Woldson Fox Theatre in downtown Spokane, I jumped at the opportunity and bought 4 tickets at $38 a piece.

Spokane Twinkles As Houses Are Covered With Lights

The city of Spokane loves a reason to decorate. And no reason, or excuse, seems to hold up better than the Christmas holiday season. The other day I ventured down through the south hill, even though it’s the opposite direction from my way home after I get off of work. I just had to see how all of the different homes in that area were doing. And then on my way back home I took a longer route through Country Homes Boulevard, and then back down Wall St. A lot of the houses I was able to look at have gone all out. And what surprised me even more is that even apartment renters are starting to light up their yards! It would appear as though a tough economy and a late Thanksgiving holiday haven’t slowed anyone down as far as decorating goes.

Monstrous in size and amount at Ruby St. Antiques

Chances are, you’ve driven past it. You know what I’m talking about; the antique store with statues of bald eagles, lions and dogs bigger than a car. The antique store that holds some of the largest and most unusual things you’ve even seen, but have never taken the time to appreciate. Well the time has come. It’s time to visit the old, the giant and the bizarre at Northwest Ruins.

Stroll through Browns Addition’s Historic Mansions

Throughout the summer, I read an intriguing advertisement. The advertisement offered a walking tour of “the historic Brown’s Addition” for $15. Now as exciting as this sounded to me, I wasn’t about to pay $15 dollars for someone to take me on a walk. So instead of paying for the guided tour, my boyfriend and I took our own.

Awake the Child in You at High Bridge Park

When thinking of Spokane, two timeless parks come to mind. There’s the classic and sprawling beauty of Manito Park, and then there’s the urban and elegant Riverfront Park. Although I love these parks, I’m always looking for something smaller, something that tends to go unnoticed. One such park is High Bridge Park. I first discovered it during the Spokane River Clean Up.

There are a couple of ways to get to the park, but the easiest is to follow Riverside (west) past Browns Addition. Once you reach a downward hill past Browns Addition you’re close. The park will be on the left hand side, just a few hundred feet past Peoples Park. So if you’re looking for somewhere to relax and reconnect with the person inside you that once had play dates and recess, I recommend grabbing a friend and a Frisbee for High Bridge Park.

Visit Greenwood Cemetery’s haunted 1,000 steps

So this Halloween, I decided to take my new found bravery to Greenwood Cemetery to visit the infamous 1,000 steps. The stairs were absolutely beautiful. The cemetery is located just past Spokane Falls Community College on 211 N. Government Way. Once you get there I recommend parking at the Riverside Mausoleum. From here, walk about fifteen feet past the Mausoleum and on the right the entrance to the stairs is outside the cemetery fence.
