Family Fun at South Hill Aquatics Center-Spokane

South Hill Aquatics Center-SpokaneWe have been hearing all summer about the new Spokane County Aquatics Center at 61st and Freya and how you get to take your toddlers on the slides. My son loves slides so earlier this week dad got off a little early from work and we headed up.

The South Hill Aquatics Center is open 7 days a week from 10:30-5:30. The cost is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 3-7 and children under 3 are free. (Children under 3 must be in a swim diaper even if they are potty trained. Our friend’s learned the hard way, but they do sell them for $1.65.) An Afternoon of Frolf on the Whitworth Campus

John displays our disks I had been avoiding Frolf for over a year. Every time I was invited I had a sound enough excuse to fool even myself. Competitive by nature (“Amy, it’s just a game!” never carried much weight with me.) I struggle with games and sports where I can’t run off my frustration. Tennis, put-put, ping pong, and, sadly, Frolf. Still lots of people like it, so I think it’s worth mentioning.

Frolf is a clever combination of the words Frisbee and golf. It is not the same as Disc Golf because fancy disc golf discs are not used. In the poor college kid, I have six square feet of dorm room space, version of disc golf players grab their most expendable Frisbee and aim for agreed upon objects. The Whitworth University campus on Hawthorne between Division and Waikiki provides an excellent location for this activity. Read the rest of An Afternoon of Frolf on the Whitworth Campus »

Afternoon at Linwood Park

Linwood Park, SpokaneThis past weekend we wanted to get together with some friends and play a pickup game of softball. However, I really wanted to go somewhere that had more to do than just softball. Therefore, we decided to head to Linwood Park on Country Holmes Blvd. (1100 W. Eastmont). Linwood Park is located off of Country Holmes Blvd. north of Francis and South of Wall Street.

We decided to make an afternoon of it, so I baked some cupcakes, packed some food, grabbed some toys and away we went. When we arrived at Linwood Park the parking lot was full, so we ended up parking on Eastmont. The park was full of activity on this Sunday afternoon. There was a large group holding a birthday party in the covered eating area, another 2 teams playing softball and dozens of children playing on the toys. Read the rest of Afternoon at Linwood Park »

Turn left onto North Dartford Drive, follow to the stop sign and turn right on North Mill Road. North Mill Rd becomes North Little Spokane Drive. Follow it until you come to East Green Leaf Drive, take a right and immediately after take another right into Pine River Park a County Park that is along the Little Spokane River. Rock City Grill- A Unique Dining Experience in Downtown Spokane

Rock City SignMy birthday was last week and I got to decide where we would go for dinner. I really love Italian food and pizza is probably my favorite, so I decided that we would go to Rock City Grill in downtown Spokane because they have delicious pizzas.

We decided to have an early dinner and luckily the restaurant wasn’t very crowded. The inside of the restaurant is very uniquely decorated. It’s kind of hard to explain and exact theme, but the pictures show the gist of it. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, although the outdoor seating is not far from the busy road. An Afternoon Walk in Riverfront Park in Downtown Spokane

Clock TowerWhen the weather is pleasant and not too hot, Riverfront Park is a great place to go for a walk, enjoy the scenery and have some fun. Some friends and I recently went for a stroll in the park on a Sunday afternoon. We were actually trying to simultaneously pass time and enjoy the weather and our walk did just that. We started our walk near the carousel and new fountain. We made our way northward across the bridge that crossed the Spokane River. Standing on the bridge facing up the river gave us a beautiful view of the park’s famous clock tower. Also located on the bridge on that day was a place that rented out bikes for people to use to explore the park. Biking would be a fun way to explore the whole park without wearing yourself out.
