100 Years of Motorcycle-Spokane Fairgrouds

100 Years of MotorcycleThis past Saturday we decided to head to the Spokane County Fairgrounds to the 100 Years of Motorcycle Rally & Concert Series. I was not sure what to expect, but my husband said we would enjoy ourselves as he went to Rosalia last year for the Rally. We are by no means motorcycle people, but we do enjoy looking at the custom bikes and my husband wanted to meet Jonathan Hillstrand from the “Deadliest Catch”.

After we spent $40 on tickets ($20 a piece) we headed to check out the custom bikes, take in some music and see what else was happening. When we first walked in the main building there was all types of motorcycles lined up, vendors and a large tattoo vendor.

Finch Arboretum: A Great Natural Setting Just West of Downtown Spokane

Finch Arboretum west of spokane washingtonWhen Matt called me up for our monthly meeting, I knew he’d be up for enjoying a new Spokane experience. I hadn’t been to Finch Arboretum since middle school, when my parents dragged me along to watch my older sister’s cross country meet. Older now, I figured I would appreciate the natural beauty and the trees more than I did then. Matt’s always up for throwing a disc around while we talk, so he was glad to join me at Finch. Lincoln Park - Spokane’s South Hill - Great park for the dogs

Lincoln Park, Spokane, South Hill, trails, pond, dogs, family, hike, Heading out early to the South Hill’s Lincoln Park this morning, with dog and kids alike, tongues hanging out, eager with expectation, the sweet, cool air promised yet another magical summer day to come and reminded me that the early mornings of summer definitely top my list of “the closest things to heaven on earth.”

So I meet my friend and her dogs, who are Lincoln Park regulars, at the entrance to the Park, in the small parking lot just off Southeast Boulevard, a few blocks north of 29th Avenue. As it’s one of those turns I’ve always thought about making every time I drive past, but never did in all my years in Spokane, it’s with much anticipation that I embark with my gang, on our journey into the “wildside” of Lincoln Park. Twilight Golf at Downriver with Old Friends

the sign at downriver golf course spokane washingtonI went to elementary school with my friends Geoff and Ryan at St. Thomas More Catholic School in North Spokane. With the busyness of life, we don’t get a chance to catch up much anymore, even though we all live in the same neighborhood in West Spokane, near Downriver Golf Course. So I called Geoff to see if he and Ryan would like to play some twilight golf at Downriver. Spokane has great, affordable golf at all times, but at the end of the day, you can get a great deal on playing nine holes at area courses. Comstock Park: The Place to Meet in South Spokane

frisbee at comstock park in spokaneComstock Park on Spokane’s South Hill has many options. There’s the public pool, the free tennis courts, the full basketball court, acres of grass and trees, and even a fire pit if you’d like to roast some marshmallows on a summer night. A group of college students and I are planning a service trip to Westport, Washington, and instead of meeting in a stuffy church basement, we’ve decided to conduct all of our weekly planning meetings at Comstock Park. The Kelly Irish Dancers and Prairie Valley Grange in Big Meadows

Alysha, Zariah, Alzera, Halona and Tamzi. Karl and Margaret Evans live in Big Meadows near Greenbluff, Washington. They purchased the old Prairie Valley Grange in Big Meadows and are in the process of restoring it back to it’s original state of use. When I met Margaret she told me she taught Irish Dances and invited us to attend the annual community Irish Kelly Dance recital and potluck on June 26th, 2008.

Margaret teaches the dance class for children and adults. This was something new for our family and turned out to be a lot of fun and is a great family annual event to attend.

Spokane Farmer’s Market

Spokane Farmer's MarketThis past Wednesday after working out, we decided to swing through downtown Spokane and visit the Spokane Farmer’s Market. The Spokane Farmer’s Market is in its 10th year and is located at 20 W. 2nd Avenue (between Division and Browne). It operates from May through October every Saturday 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and Wednesdays beginning mid-June from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Once we found a parking spot, which there is street parking and a parking lot right next to the Farmer’s Market on the east side, it was off to find some fresh fruits and vegetables. I was surprised at 10:00 in the morning how many people there were meandering through the Farmer’s Market. There was live music, food, and plenty of conversation. What more do you need! Mizuna and a Movie: A Great (Vegetarian) Date in Spokane

Mizuna Restaurant in Spokane WashingtonAutumn and I had been busy with grad school, work, company from out of town, and foster parenting for the past few weekends, so we decided that a date would be a great use of our Saturday night. We don’t have much money, but we do have generous friends and family who had recently given us a gift certificate to Mizuna, and movie tickets to AMC. So, without much cost to us, we could have a great night in downtown Spokane.

We arrived at Mizuna (214 N Howard) and were greeted by a friendly hostess. We’d been there before, and the service is always top notch. It seems that the staff enjoys working at Mizuna, and they certainly enjoy eating there. Whenever we ask about the menu items, our server raves about the best meal they have tried recently, and gives great advice about the kitchen staff’s best new creations. It’s called Coeur d’Alene Park, but it’s in Spokane

the gazebo at Coeur d'Alene park in spokane washingtonSpokane’s Browne’s Addition used to be a pretty rough neighborhood, but with the influx of students, a great museum, and delicious eateries, it is now one of the best places to live for young artists, students, and professionals in Spokane. I can’t visit Browne’s without running into a fellow writer pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at the Inland Northwest Center for Writers, and Artfest was no exception. Kid Fun at Northside Aquatics Center-Spokane

Northside Acquatics Center-Spokane This past week we were looking for a way to beat the heat. We had heard about the Northside Aquatics Center sponsored by the Spokane County Parks & Recreation Department, but had yet to visit it, so off to the north part of Spokane County we went. The Northside Aquatics Center is located at 18120 N. Hatch Rd. The easiest way to get there if you are heading north, is to take Hwy 395 to the Hatch exit, take a right at the stop sign and go about 2 miles and you will see the water park on the right hand side.
